Egg Tarts

The secret is to use the pre-made tart crusts from the Chinese grocery store! (pictured egg tarts are ones from Hong Kong, not our homemade ones)

Ingredients

Pastry Shell

  • 12 pre-made tart crusts (from Chinese grocery store)

Filling

  • 1 cup of hot water (hot tap water is fine)
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (one 5oz Carnation can is sufficient)
  • 3 eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Dissolve sugar in hot water to make a syrup (use a whisk to make sure that sugar is completely dissolved).
  3. Whisk 3 eggs in a bowl.
  4. Combine eggs, evaporated milk, sugar syrup, and vanilla extract.
  5. Divide mixture into tart crusts.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes.
